ABOUT MY EQUALS CONNECT 2025

If the inaugural edition of Connect was a celebration of all that the initiative achieved since it first started - and a check-in on where it was at - this year, we are marking 10 years since My eQuals was first conceived with an agenda that is very much forward-looking.

Our theme, Connecting with the Future, aims to set the tone for a day when we discuss the many initiatives happening in the world of digital credentials - and the role that My eQuals is playing in advancing those initiatives.

We feel that the timing couldn’t be better. As many countries worldwide recognise the importance of a skills-based economy, the need for recognition and validation of academic achievements has never been greater.

We are excited to be bringing together voices from all corners of the sector for a day packed with keynotes, workshops and networking opportunities.

Workshops info

There will be two workshops running concurrently in the morning, and another two in the afternoon. Please familiarise yourself with the workshops' content so you can attend the ones you prefer on the day.

MORNING WORKSHOPS

South Pacific Project Update:

The Pacific Qualifications Recognition project is a 5-year project focused on supporting the nine Pacific countries participating in the project and the Pacific Community (SPC), in strengthening systems nationally and regionally, with the goal of improving the medium-long term recognition of qualifications from the Pacific. SPC and the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) are the key implementation partners.

NZQA representatives will provide an update on the work to date, key insights and the immediate and longer-term next steps.

My eQuals - Present and Future Panel:

Join a dynamic panel of education leaders as they discuss how digital credentials are currently being used across the sector and what the future could hold. From practical implementation insights to aspirational ideas for innovation, this session explores both the real-world impact and emerging possibilities of credentialing. Perfect for institutions considering their next steps or looking to learn from peers.

AFTERNOON WORKSHOPS

The ANZ Credit Management Initiative:

A sector-wide Credit Management System (CrMS) has the potential to alleviate the persistent and widespread current issues with managing credit and deliver significant benefits to learners, education providers and governments. This was clearly demonstrated in the Credit Management Proof-of-Concept (PoC) that was undertaken with the NZ universities in 2023 and 2024. The panel will comprise representatives from some of those institutions that have been involved from the PoC, through the RFP, to the current state. The panel will discuss the challenges and opportunities that have emerged over the journey, and what they hope to deliver for their institutions, the sector and most importantly, the learners, who are at the heart of all things My eQuals.

Skills Assessment and Skills Recognition Panel:

This session explores the critical importance of skills recognition across the entire education sector, highlighting how transparent and portable skills frameworks are shaping the future of learning and work. The discussion will examine how Australia and New Zealand are aligning with global trends to ensure that skills—whether gained through formal education, vocational training, or workplace experience—are accurately identified, validated, and valued. As international economies increasingly prioritise lifelong learning and micro-credentials, this session will consider how robust skills recognition systems can support student mobility, workforce adaptability, and national productivity, while also addressing the challenges and opportunities for educators, employers, and policymakers.
